I'm Turning One...So You Better Get This Party Started...

Are my husband and I the only ones whose weekends suddenly revolve almost entirely around the birthday party schedule of our two-year-old?

Over the past six weeks, our little monkey has attended so many parties (her own included) that she literally wakes up in the morning and exclaims “I want to wear party dress. We gonna knock on the door and eat cake.” Translation:  weekends = parties.  And my daughter loves her some cake.

The Purple Monkey Playroom phone lines are also abuzz with requests for bookings, with people frantically seeking out unclaimed time slots and reporting wait lists around the city through July.

Clearly its party season in Chicago and themes are how the toddlers and preschoolers roll.  We chose Sesame Street for our Elmo-crazed kiddo.  Last weekend, the one-year-old birthday soiree of a good friend’s daughter boasted purple monkeys on everything from the invitations down to the party favors. Pure coincidence, and the celebration was held at her home, but we agreed she had very good taste!

So now I’m curious – what are some clever “themed” parties you’ve attended for the baby/toddler/preschooler set?  Thomas the Train has made three appearances at Purple Monkey so far – perhaps having something to do with our giant climber train. A “pink and yellow” party is on reserve for next weekend and Dora is set to adorn the playroom several times in June.  Singers are also in hot demand.

What clever kids parties have you attended recently? Are princess-themes still preschooler chic? Are your friends serving traditional sheet and layer cakes or has the cupcake and cake pops trend worked its way down to the under 5 set? Leave no detail unspoken. We’re working on our party packages and we want to ensure we’re right on trend or ahead of the curve!

My daughters almost 4 she still likes the backyardigans and veggie tales! I'm glad they are two kids shows I can stand! At this age most kids do princesses for girls (yawnnnn). So glad she's not into that!!! I think we will stick to color choice parties cause she likes something now but next month at her party the characters will be old news!! Just will color coordinate. I love old fashioned parties where kids play games too like pin the tail on the donkey or balloon pops! Definately am over the sheet cake. I would only do cupcakes from now on.
